What to Wear for Your Horse Show Photography Session
First impressions matter — both in the ring and in your photos. Here's how to dress for the camera while keeping your show-day look polished and professional.
When it comes to horse show photography, what you wear can make a significant difference in how your images turn out. Solid, rich colors photograph beautifully — think deep navy, hunter green, or burgundy. Avoid busy patterns or neon colors that can distract from you and your horse.
For English disciplines, a well-fitted coat in a classic color paired with light breeches creates a timeless look. Western riders look stunning in coordinated outfits where your shirt, hat, and saddle pad complement each other without competing.
Don't forget your horse's turnout. A clean, well-groomed coat, a neatly pulled or braided mane, and polished tack all contribute to stunning images. I always recommend arriving early so you have time to do a final touch-up before we start shooting.
Finally, think about the background. If we're shooting in an arena with colorful jumps or banners, a more neutral outfit can help you stand out. If we're in a natural setting with green grass and trees, a pop of color can be beautiful.
Have questions about your specific show? Reach out before your session and we can plan together!
