A Guide to Choosing the Right Fine Art Print for Your Home

Not all prints are created equal. Here's everything you need to know about paper types, sizes, and finishes to find the perfect print for your space.

Choosing a fine art print is an investment — both financially and emotionally. You want something that will look stunning on your wall for decades. Here's how to make the right choice.

Paper vs. Canvas: Fine art paper prints have a classic, gallery feel. They're ideal for detailed images where you want to see every hair on your horse's coat. Canvas wraps have a more painterly quality and work beautifully for large statement pieces. I print on archival-quality materials that are rated to last 100+ years without fading.

Size matters: The most common mistake is going too small. A 5x7 that looks great on your phone screen will feel lost on a wall. For a focal point above a sofa or fireplace, I typically recommend starting at 20x24 and going larger if the space allows. I'm happy to help you visualize the right size for your specific wall.

Finishes: Matte finishes reduce glare and have a soft, elegant look. Lustre (semi-gloss) is the most versatile — it has some sheen but doesn't reflect as much as glossy. Metallic paper creates a luminous, almost three-dimensional effect that's particularly stunning for equine portraits.

Framing: A simple, clean frame in white, black, or natural wood lets the image be the star. I can recommend local framers in the Bellefonte area who do beautiful work.

Not sure where to start? Order a smaller print first to see how the image looks in your space, then consider a larger statement piece once you've fallen in love with it.
